Advice from residents

It's got to be inside your property line by like 3 inches. Can't be butted up to the neighbors fence. Must allow access to a truck in the backyard if you have utilities back there. Also must be under 6 feet tall and they do check. You can go online to get all the details at cape corals website.

Call 311 they can put you in the right direction.

You can find the city's codes and requirements for fencing here https://library.municode.com/fl/cape_coral/codes/code_of_ordinances

Every permit file is different alot of factors ate taken into consideration like body of water , safety and dual frontage then material high and gates for pool or not if it goes back for review its a long process but it all depends on the plans examiner and review officer

Read up on the website, there is no one that is going to spend an hour on the phone walking you thru it because there are 1000’s of people wanting to do the same. You have to go in person and stand in line for a few hours. Contractors can do it online, and the big reputable ones get it in a couple days.(they have a person that 100% of their job is getting permits) You should start by calling the company that surveyed your property to mark the property lines. They came out and marked mine for free a few years after the survey. (Davis) My neighbor had actually put his fence on my side, even attached it to my dock. Fence has to be 6” away from property line. If you are not 100% sure where your property line is, you will have to tear it down if it’s too close to your neighbors property. The expansion joints/seams on sea wall caps are not exactly on the property line as one would think.

Very easy need your site plan

Have to apply online from on..look thru it and see what's up at this link https://www.capecoral.gov/department/community_development/permitting/index.php

Super easy you go down to the city file for a permit for a fence it’s like 30 or 40 bucks they’ll do the inspection and final inspection when the fence is complete

New fence or replace existing, like-for-like? If it’s like-for-like no permit needed currently. New fence requires a permit. Permit reviews are currently running as long as 4 weeks. State law says you get a discount on the fees if the review takes longer than 30 days. I believe it’s 10% of the fees per day over 30.

And there’s only one inspection, once the fence is completed.

Usually the fence company gets it but also charges you for it..
Doing it yourself then you need to go to the town office.

I think you can do it online. You need a Plat layout of property. I think fence has to be 12" off property line. It can take a few weeks (4). You also need utilities to mark any lines prior.
Go to Cape Corals website and a link will take you to permits.

I just would not listen to anybody because if code enforcement comes over and you said Susie on Facebook said I can its not going to do you any good. One thing you will find is Cape Coral takes her codes very seriously

You will need to go city hall. Permits had been running behind but believe that has gotten better. They will need a site plan on what type of fence you are building. There will be inspection(s) just not sure how many.
